Made to Matter
Bumi means “Mother Earth” in Malayalam — and she’s at the centre of everything we do. Our brand was born from a love for the planet and a desire to find better ways to live—ways that don’t rely on harmful plastics or single-use disposables. We believe even everyday products can carry joy, be thoughtful, and leave a gentler footprint on Earth.

A Global Emergency Sparked the Idea
- The world now produces over 460 million tonnes of plastic per year—much of which ends up in land, rivers, and oceans where it can persist for centuries (iucn.org).
- Each year, around 8 million tonnes of plastic flow into the ocean, killing over 100,000 marine animals and 1 million seabirds through ingestion and entanglement (Plastic Collective).
- Microplastics have infiltrated our bodies, foods, soil, waterways, and even the air we breathe—leading to documented impacts on organ function, hormonal health, and overall wellbeing (The Guardian).

Hits Close to Home
- In Australia alone, households contribute nearly 1.2 million tonnes of plastic waste annually, which is barely recycled (under 13% recovery rate) (accumulate.com.au).
- Coastal research by CSIRO shows a promising 39% reduction in plastic pollution on Australian beaches over the past decade—but risks remain significant, with polystyrene items and cigarette butts among the most found (csiro.au).
